OVERWEIGHT BAGGAGE CAUSES LIAT CHALLENGES INTO DOMINICA

The Chief Executive Officer of LIAT, Mr. Mark Darby has issued an apology to LIAT travellers into Dominica this week.

"As expected, we have seen a marked increase in traffic into Dominica over the last week or so due to the Creole Festival and the Reunion. However, the real challenge has been baggage. We are having to deal with a 'mountain' of bags both in Antigua and Barbados.  To cope with this extraordinary demand we have laid on many extra flights including some with cargo aircraft in order to accommodate the increase in baggage demand to the island. We plan to have three more baggage flights tomorrow (Tuesday)" the CEO explained.

In outlining the situation, the CEO further clarified that the baggage allowance is 50 lbs but on this occasion, LIAT has been seeing persons with baggage weighing 150 pounds and over on a regular basis over the last few days!

"This has put a burden on our resources. It has been an arduous task trying to accommodate all this extra baggage." Darby explained

LIAT apologised to passengers for the inconvenience - especially those that have only travelled with bags within the 50lbs allowance, but hopes that passengers will realise that the aircraft are only designed to safely fly with a certain amount of cargo - which amounts to approximately 50lbs per passenger.
